Verbod op mobieltjes

Onder de titel "Spies like us" heeft "Cool Cat Teacher" Vicky Davis op haar weblog een prachtig verhaal geschreven over het al dan niet toestaan van het gebruik van mobieltjes op school.
Het verhaal is té waardevol om er hier en daar wat uit te pakken. Ben je ouder en/of leerkracht, dan moét je het gewoon helemaal lezen!

Om je te triggeren plaats ik hier integraal haar conclusies:
  • Values and ethics are vital. You cannot control whether students CAN do these things. They can.
  • You CAN control what you teach students! Discuss and teach ethics as a weekly practice. You should have a forum (usually technology class) where you can talk about topics as they emerge or you will constantly be playing catch up.
  • You should protect yourself and your teachers with policies that consider any media filmed at school (And remember that many accommodations REQUIRE you to allow special needs students the ability to record anyway.)
  • Schools who ignore technology and ignore instilling values in their students could be reaping the negative consequences for those walking their halls right now for the next 100 years.

  1. Ik kan niet anders concluderen dan "very sound advise".
    Morgenavond is op de basisschool van mijn kinders een voorlichtingsavond over cyberpesten. De aankondiging beloofde niet heel veel goeds aangezien het deed/doet vermoeden dat wij als ouders vooral te horen gaan krijgen hoe eng het internet wel niet is. Ik ga er naar toe om te horen wat/of de school regels en afspraken heeft die kinderen hier mee leren omgaan, zowel aan de dader als aan de slachtoffer-kant.
